Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is a world-renowned pediatric hospital. It is one of the largest children’s hospitals in the U.S. Founded in 1883, the not-for-profit hospital runs the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in the region. The hospital provides services to communities beyond its local market through its outpatient clinic network. It also serves as a teaching and research facility and collaborates with other healthcare research institutions worldwide.

 

Problem

This organization actively remains at the forefront of industry trends, research and education programs. To prepare for health reform measures, it is reducing costs through workflow, purchasing and a best-practice approach to process improvement. Increasing the productivity of its 43 FTEs in recruiting is one key strategy. “We have lots of people involved in each hiring decision. Many of these people are highly-compensated specialists,” said the Senior Director of Employment at the hospital. “The expense of bringing a candidate in pales in comparison to the salaries of those doing the interviewing, so we need to make sure that their time is spent with the best candidates.”

A second concern is the hospital’s location, Cincinnati, which is notoriously a difficult and expensive travel destination. “This is another reason why bringing the right candidates on site the first time is important,” said the senior director. “It needs to be worth their while and ours.”

 

Solution

Results

The Modern Hire interviewing platform has helped the hospital generate strategies and results. The hospital increased their budget effectiveness by having candidates complete a video interview prior to flying them to Cincinnati – ensuring only the top candidates come in for in-person interviews. This also means hiring managers’ time is spent with the most viable candidates.
