Improved Selection Process
The rationale for adopting video interviewing was to improve the accuracy of their selection. The assessment centers’ conversion rates were typically low and often necessitated running additional events that impacted the business on an operational level.
Implementing Video Interviewing has enabled Cargill to:
- Replace phone interviews
- Remove the need for Hiring Managers to travel to campuses to conduct on-site interviews
- Reduce the number of Assessment Centers and candidate interviews

Assessing Soft Skills
Walker maintains that “the telephone interviews were not finding the soft skills. Video Interviewing gave us another insight – how they react and engage with the camera. It’s quite subtle but certainly effective for assessing soft skills.”
With a 33% reduction in interview time (compared to phone interviews), not to mention allowing time for scheduling and perhaps 10% no-shows, video interviewing has resulted in time savings for Cargill.
Walker maintains that video interviewing has a positive impact on its employer brand in terms of the branding capabilities of the Modern Hire account and the convenience it offers to candidates to choose when and where they complete their interviews.
